Sunday Times Sues Armstrong to Recoup Earlier Settlement

A United Kingdom newspaper has sued Lance Armstrong in a bid to recover a $1.5 million settlement it forked over after the Austin cyclist successfully sued the paper libel because it labeled him a cheat in 2004. The latest lawsuit is the byproduct of the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency’s finding that Armstrong took performance-enhancing drugs. The Sunday Times wrote in a letter to Armstrong’s lawyers that “It is clear that the proceedings were baseless and fraudulent. … Your representations that you had never taken performance enhancing drugs were deliberately false.” The paper is owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp.
